Breaking News: Lassa Fever Death Toll Rises To 176 In Nigeria
Nigeria has just recorded three more deaths from the Lassa
fever epidemic, bringing the total death in 2020 to 176.
The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known
to the general public on Thursday 26th March 2020, in its latest
situation report.
It said that 28 new cases were just registered; taking the
total number of those infected to 932 across at least 27 states.
The NCDC has added that the states with highest new
confirmed cases are Edo (eight) and Ondo (five).
Lassa fever can be transmitted to humans through contact
with food or household items that has been contaminated with rodent urine or
faeces. Its symptoms include; high fever, sore throat, nausea, fever and
general weakness.
The disease has been prevalent in Nigeria, as there is always
an outbreak every year. This time of the year, Nigeria is battling it with a
new virus which is the coronavirus.
