FG Alerts Nigerians Over Android-based Fraudulent App

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Tuesday raised an alarm over the existence of an Android-based malicious and fraudulent coronavirus Ransomware application, which alleges to provide updates on coronavirus  and no of infections near the user.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed  The Minister of Information and Culture, in an announcement by his Special Assistant, Mr Segun Adeyemi,  said that the Ransomware blocks access to users’ personal data and accounts and threatens deletion, except users pay $100 in Bitcoin within 48 hours.

He said the Ransomware App, which was detected on the website,

“convinces the users to download an Android App supposedly for coronavirus map tracking and heat map visuals.”

The minister, has therefore, requested the general public not to download the Ransomware App for their own good, to be aware of it and to only seek out updates on the pandemic only from the appropriate authorities.
