ASUU Rejects Submission Of BVN As Condition For The Payment Of Withheld Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has just rejected the submission of Bank Verification Number (BVN) of it’s members as a condition for payment of the February and March salaries of Federal Universities Lectures that were withheld.

The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an interview revealed this today to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari had on the 21st of April approved for the immediate payment of February and March withheld salaries of Federal Universities lecturers who were not able to enroll on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

ASSU had reportedly embarked on an indefinite strike on March 23rd 2020, due to the failure on The Federal Government part to address outstanding issues that were raised in the FGN-ASUU 2019 memorandum of Action and the objection of ASUU of IPPIS.

The President of ASUU appreciated the effort of the Federal Government towards paying February and March salaries which was withheld, he however noted that the condition attached to it does not go well with every member of the Board which is to supply their BVN, he noted that its members have been aid their salaries in the past without asking for their BVN, and therefore now suspects that it’s the governments indirect way to get back at ASUU for not complying with the IPPIS and therefore is ready to clarify this in a meeting if the condition necessitates one.
