COVID-19: 111 inmates freed in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government has just released 111 inmates from
the correctional centers as part of the Federal Government’s measure to protect
inmates from contracting the COVID-19 that has been ravaging the world today.
Reports say that the order for the release of the inmates
was revealed in a statement by the Special advicer on Media to the governor of
Kebbi State, Malam Yahaya Sarki in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday 22nd
April.
he said that:
“The state government has paid fines of the inmates in addition to giving them N10,000 each to cater for transportation back to their respective destinations.”
In the statement that was released the freed inmates were
advised to be of good character at all times as they are released to rejoin the
society.
“According to Justice Muhammad-Ambursa, some of the inmates who regained their freedom fell under Presidential Pardon while the remaining ones were either discharged fully or were released on administrative bail.”
