David Luiz: 'I Still Ask Myself Why Choose Arsenal'

Center-back David Luiz likened the move to Arsenal as "having to pay the restaurant bill and not eat anything".
"I knew Arsenal was not in a good condition then, they had problems in the defense," Luiz told ESPN Brazil on 17 April. "When I got there, I was like paying the restaurant bill without eating. But I still came because I wanted something new in life, I wanted to learn."
"Things are not going well, we don't have good results," the 32-year-old added. "Unai Emery is a good coach and a good person, but things do not please him. He leaves chaos, and you have to stand in that situation. I often wonder why I decided. come here. Why is this happening ".
Luiz was the mainstay of Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri, but lost his place when coach Frank Lampard came to power. The Brazilian center-back left Chelsea for Arsenal for $ 10 million last summer. He started 25 of 28 "Gunners" games in the Premier League this season, but did not bring certainty in the defense. Arsenal ranked ninth with 40 points, before the tournament was postponed because of Covid-19.
"I used to be very happy at Chelsea," Luiz said. "But when I understood that my position there was no more, even though it was not over, I decided very quickly. I wanted to leave Chelsea when the door to Arsenal was not open. When I arrived at Arsenal, everything It was not easy at first. I did not fit in, while the Chelsea fans did not understand me and criticized me. But I always respect and love Chelsea. "
Luiz was the most expensive defender in the world when he transferred from Chelsea to PSG for $ 62.5 million in 2014. Two years later, he returned to Chelsea for $ 37 million. During two periods with Chelsea, Luiz won a Premier League title (2016-2017 season), a Champions League (2011-2012), two FA Cups and two Europa League titles.
