Fire razes 700 shelters in Borno IDPs camp



Not less than 700 shelters has reportedly been destroyed by fire in at IDP camp at Mafa Local Government Area in Borno State.

The secretary to the council, Mohammed Lawan-Sheriff made this known to the public through the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday. He said that dozens of households  in the camp was destroyed due to the fire which had started around 11 am on Tuesday and lasted for several hours.

He added that the fire had started from a tent which had spread to other shelters due to the absence of fire fighters in the camp at the time of the incidence. He said that it took the efforts of the IDP’s, Civilian Joint Task Force, some security personnel’s and other good Samaritans that helped to keep the fire under control. The secretary further more explained that the council and other partners were all working to address the humanitarian situation at the camps.
