Herbicide CO2.4 D Used To Ripen Yellow Bananas Can Damage The Liver And Brain

According to experts, using herbicide CO2.4 D to ripen yellow bananas can damage the liver and brain, this is an extremely toxic substance that is not a growth stimulant.

Recently, the specialized inspection agency, Binh Duong Plant Protection Department destroyed 200 kg of bananas. These bananas are from a barn in Thuan Giao Ward, Thuan An Town, Binh Duong Province, owned by Mr. Vu Xuan Tien. Mr. Tien uses stone gas (gas from light soil) and herbicide CO 2.4D to ripen while helping harden the fruit.

Information with VTC News, Assoc. Nguyen Van Vien, Vietnam National University of Agriculture said: The herbicide CO 2.4D Commonly used in Vietnam to kill weeds for crops and rice. When using this substance, the leaves absorb grass stimulating meristem (the tissue gathered by cells capable of dividing to form new cells) overgrown resulting in growth disturbance and death.

However, according to the research, if using CO2 2,4D at very low concentrations of five parts per million to seven parts per million, it has a stimulating effect on growth. More than 30 years ago, farmers used this substance to help stimulate rooting when extracting plants, but now, there are many alternatives and are allowed to be used safely again.

Assoc.Prof. Vien affirmed that although it has a stimulating effect on growth, it is absolutely forbidden to use this substance to ripen fruits, especially bananas, because this is a very toxic substance, not allowed by the government to use as a primary enhancer.

Using this substance for bananas, not for hard bananas but maybe farmers use this substance mixed with water and spray or soak the bananas can turn green bananas into yellow evenly. Herbicide CO 2.4D has the ability to turn trees, green fruits into yellow. But if you use a lot, trees, fruits are easy to die, broken. In agriculture, after spraying CO 2.4 D must be isolated before harvesting 20-40 days to avoid toxicity.

As for PGS - Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, School of Biotechnology - Food Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, when he learned the information about herbicide use in ripe bananas, he was not surprised.

Associate Professor Thinh said: They use to ripen and preserve many different fruits, not just bananas. CO 2.4D is a stimulant of cell growth in leaves so fast it kills the grass. This substance causes cells to grow quickly, insufficient supply of nutrients will lead to plant death.

This is a dangerous substance, but it is used to ripen fruit quickly and cause long-term damage due to its inhibition of microbial growth. The use of herbicides can prevent insects, bacteria, mold and fungi from invading and keeping fruit from spoiling.

But in the herbicide contains dioxin (Agent Orange), if ingested in banana, dioxin contaminated, altering the genetic structure, women can give birth to a monster.

This substance when used in bananas can soak through the skin, through the stem to enter the flesh. When ingested, CO2.4D attacks the body, residues in the liver and brain should destroy these 2 parts.

Many users may not know how to 'kill inadvertently', but there are also people who know that harm is not obvious how harmful. Personally implement CO 2.4D herbicide spraying also faces twice as toxic to those who eat spray.

Currently, tons of harvested bananas need to be consumed, if left ripe naturally ripen first, then later ripened. In one case, there are ripe fruits crushed, the fruits are still green, so the simultaneous ripening of fruits helps the production and consumption of products better. Associate Professor Thinh said that it is necessary to propagate to farmers that there are many ways to make fruits ripen quickly and safely, rather than using herbicides.

Regarding the use of stone gas (light soil) to ripen bananas, Assoc. Prof. Thinh said that this way is not toxic. Ice gas stimulates the ripening of fruits and has been used for a long time.
