National Assembly Resumes Plenary After Five-Week Recess

Members of the National Assembly have reportedly resumed plenary after five weeks of break due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The lawmakers in the Senate and the House of Representatives chambers have all returned to the Assembly complex in Abuja on Tuesday 28th April, 2020, after they had reportedly went on recess as part of their measures to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had reportedly led the lawmakers into the chamber after which a plenary started at about 10:30am as soon as they were all seated.

Due to the rise in the cases of COVID-19 in the country, the senators were all asked to maintain the social distance order even inside the chamber by giving a space of two seats between themselves.

A little while after the proceedings started the Senate entered a closed door session. Also, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, had also led the lawmakers into the chamber of the House for the plenary.
