Now Is Not The Time To Cut funding – WHO

US President Donald Trump had earlier announced that the country would cut its funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) related to COVID-19. The United Nations (UN) has also issued an official statement on this issue.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres yesterday 14th April, 2020, issued an official statement after US President Donald Trump announced to stop funding the World Health Organization (WHO) related to how to deal with pandemic COVID-19.

In his statement, Mr. Guterres emphasized that:

"Now is not the time to cut funding for the activities of the World Health Organization or any humanitarian organization in the fight against COVID-19."

Instead, Guterres said, this is the time when the international community must work together in solidarity to prevent the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the serious consequences it has. Earlier, during a press conference at the White House, US President Donald Trump criticized WHO in dealing with COVID-19 before the worldwide outbreak, saying that “WHO had failed to implement basic mission of this organization ".

In addition to stopping funding for WHO, Mr. Trump said he had instructed to investigate the organization's role in hiding information and failing to manage the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus .

According to Mr. Trump, the United States provides a budget of about US $ 400-500 million per year while China contributes only US $ 40 million. However, the WHO has objected to the restriction on travel with China, causing a pandemic to spread and many people die, the US President said.
