“The World Will Forever Live With Covid-19” - WHO

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned countries not to be caught off guard against the Covid-19 epidemic because "this virus will live with us for a very long time longer".

According to Tedros, the current outbreak of Covid-19 in Western Europe has been stable over the past few days, but in many other parts of the world, the rate of spread of the epidemic is very worrying.

“Although the number of infections is still low, we are seeing a worrying uptrend in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Most of these countries are in the early stages of a pandemic, some countries that have been affected by the epidemic early on are now witnessing an outbreak. Don't make a mistake, we still have a long way to go. This virus will live with us for a very long time. ”
Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreysus emphasized.

In addition, during the press conference, the WHO Director General reiterated recent concerns in relations with the US government. He hoped the United States would soon resume its financial support to WHO because it would also benefit its own safety.

With regard to important tasks for the immediate WHO, the Executive Director and the WHO Emergency Program Mike Ryan said that a clear investigation of the animal origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is intended. The sense of urgency is critical, because it is necessary to find out how this virus overcomes the species barrier to infect humans.

The Covid-19 outbreak began in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in late 2019. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the outbreak has so far occurred in 210 countries and territories. Worldwide recorded 2,620,579 cases of Covid-19, of which 182,903 died. 709,541 people have recovered.
