UPDATED: INEC Headquarter On Fire

The Headquarters of INEC in Abuja was on Friday reportedly gutted down by fire in the early hours of Friday.

The affected part, which is the Election and Party Monitoring Department (EPM), was reportedly completely burnt down by the fire that had started around 11 am.

However, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Voters’ Education and Information, Mr. Festus Okoye, said that no precarious document was lost in the fire except for computers and photocopying machines.

He also revealed that some of the documents relating to political parties were destroyed but the important ones were reportedly stored in fireproof cabinets. He also added that important documents relating to the monitoring of political parties are still very much intact as they were moved out before the fire, although the body had lost public properties and some equipment and that the cause of the fire is still yet to be ascertained.

Controller Braimoh Mommoh, in charge of Federal Fire Service, Abuja Command, said the damage was not much but that investigations has started to reveal the cause of the fire.
