Vietnam And The UK Team Up To Test Drugs For Treatment Of Covid-19
Vietnam and the UK are coordinating research on the
treatment of Covid-19 with antimalarial drugs.
Newspaper Dan Tri information, specifically,
clinical research unit at Oxford University (OUCRU) of Britain is cooperating
with the Ministry of Health of Vietnam and HCMC Tropical Diseases
Hospital. HCM to conduct research to assess the safety and effectiveness
of chloroquine use in the treatment of Covid-19.
Dr. Ngo Trung Quang - Deputy Director of Science and
Technology Department (Ministry of Health) also said that over the past time,
the Ministry of Health has cooperated with international organizations,
especially in collaboration with the Ambassador. In the UK, to conduct an
operation involving chloroquine clinical trials in the treatment of Covid-19
patients. Chloroquine has been used to treat millions of people with malaria
since 1934.
He said this is the direction, the approach is very suitable
for how to get new drugs, new methods in the treatment of patients with
Covid-19 in Vietnam.
Sharing in the research introduction video, British
Ambassador Gareth Ward and OUCRU representative said that if this test proves
chloroquine is an effective Covid-19 treatment, this method can be implemented
to treat millions of people around the world at all levels of income at a
reasonable cost, fairly, efficiently and safely.
A source in Thanh Nien newspaper said that,
previously, a group of French scientists had announced the results of
successful clinical trials of drugs against Covid-19, a combination of two available
drugs, hydroxychloroquine (malaria) and azithromycin (antibiotics for bacterial
infections).
According to VnExpress , some countries such as
the US and China have used chloroquine to treat Covid-19
patients. However, some countries have also stopped due to side effects of
the drug. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has removed
the web page on how to prescribe hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to treat
Covid-19.
As of April 28, the UK recorded more than 157,000 cases and
more than 21,000 deaths from Covid-19, while the number of cases in Vietnam was
270, with no deaths. Covid-19 has appeared in 210 countries and
territories, causing more than three million infections and more than 210,000
deaths.
