Why We Enforced Strict Measures Against Nigerians - Chinese Government
The Chinese government on Tuesday 14th April gave
a clarification on why it had enforced strict measures against Nigerians and
other Africans that are stranded in Guangzhou, a city in China.
Mr Zhou Pingjian, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, said that the
dominance of the COVID-19 infection among Foreigners, especially Nigerians and
other Africans had compelled the actions. He also explained that Blacks were
found more vulnerable to the virus due to the number of persons that has tested
positive to the virus.
Although he agreed with the Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign
Affairs Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama that the measures that was put in place to curb
the virus which had lead to mistrust was due to misinformation.
He said that Chinese has a zero tolerance for
discrimination. And also added that Nigeria is a good friend of China and would
not do anything to destroy the relationship.
