10,000 Iranian health workers are infected with COVID-19

The ILNA television channel quoted Iranian Deputy Health Minister Qassem Janbabai as saying that about 10,000 health workers in the country were infected with the new strain of coronavirus that caused COVID-19. The source said several cases had died.

Earlier, in April, Iran's Ministry of Health said more than 100 health workers had died from COVID-19. Those are just a few of the 7,249 deaths, 129,341 cases in this largest Middle East outbreak.

However, according to the report of the research center of the Iranian National Assembly, the actual number of COVID-19 cases as well as the number of deaths in Iran may even be nearly double that of the Ministry of Health announced.

Health Minister Saeed Namaki urged Iranians to avoid traveling during religious holiday Eid al-Fitr (ending the Muslim holy month of Ramadan) later this month to avoid the risk of nCoV infection.

"I urge you not to travel during Eid al-Fit. Sure, such trips will lead to new infections ... People should not go to and from high risk areas, "said Saeed Minister Namaki.

The head of the Iranian Ministry of Health also emphasized: 90% of the population in many areas is not infected yet. In the event of a new disease outbreak, it will be difficult for the functional forces to control the situation.
