70 Year Old Man Who Insulted President Buhari Sentenced To Jail


Lawal Izala, who had reportedly insulted the President, President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Aminu Masari has been according to reports sentenced to jail in Katsina state.

He was sentenced to serve for 18 months in jail by a court in Katsina state, on Tuesday 5th May, 2020.
It was earlier reported that he and two others were arrested last week for insulting the president and the governor. 

They were charged with inciting disobedience to civil authorities and disrespect to authorities by demeaning utterances which they made.

The court had found him guilty of the two count charge, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison for the first charge and 1 year for the second charge. Although he was given an option to pay the sum of  10,000 for the first charge and ₦20,000 for the second charge.

According to reports Mr. Izala had spoken out of anger after visiting his village and discovered that his family had been killed by bandits and 15 of his cows were rustled, because of this he spoke out in anger and frustration.

He is now released from prison after some states men had paid the fine of ₦30,000 which he was fined on his behalf.
