Asia Records Over 10,000 Deaths
In Asia, the number of deaths from COVID-19 is 10,001 cases,
of which China - the country originating - accounted for nearly half with 4,633
cases, India 1,985 cases, Indonesia 943 cases.
In South Korea, the number of new infections has
returned to double digits. Specifically, on 8/5, the country has recorded
12 new cases, of which 11 cases are cases of entry. Before that, South
Korea for 3 consecutive days there was no new case in the community. To
date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Korea is 10,822, with 256 deaths.
Meanwhile, Japan is considering lifting emergency
orders in areas where new cases of COVID-19 are not recorded. According to
Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura, although he may consider removing the
emergency, he still wants people to reduce their exposure by 80% if not
needed.
On May 8, the administration of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region (China ) began to relax measures of social
separation after the financial center basically stopped the spread of SARS-CoV
virus -2 causes acute respiratory tract infection COVID-19.
Accordingly, bars, gyms, beauty salons and cinemas
reopened. Authorities also relaxed the restriction on the number of people
who could gather in public places from four to eight.
Thanks to effective testing, monitoring and treatment
measures, Hong Kong health officials have basically controlled the
disease. New cases of the day have increased by less than 10 cases in the
last 18 days with 11 days reporting no new cases. All new cases are those
from abroad who are immediately quarantined.
To date, Hong Kong has
recorded a total of 1,045 cases, of which only 4 have died.
In Southeast Asia, only a few countries continue to
record an increase in new cases, while up to half of the countries have
reported no new cases for days in a row. On 8/5, Indonesia recorded 336
new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country
to 13,112.
Indonesia began to relax the ban on air travel, but at a
limited level. Singapore had an additional 768 new COVID-19 cases,
bringing the total number to 21,707, including 20 deaths. The Philippines
also confirmed 120 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection, bringing the total
number of COVID-19 cases to 10,463 cases.
In Malaysia, on the same day, 68 new cases of SARS-CoV-2
virus were recorded, bringing the total number of cases to 6,535, and no new
deaths were recorded during the two consecutive days and the total number of
cases and deaths remain at 107.
In Thailand, the total number of COVID-19 cases
as of May 8 has increased to 3,000 after an additional 8 new cases. In the
past 24 hours, the country has not recorded any new deaths and the total number
of deaths remains 55.
