Court Orders DSS To Pay N10m To Man Detained For Using Hanan Buhari’s Previous Phone Line
A Federal High Court in
Asaba has just ordered the Department of State Service (DSS) to pay a sum of
N10 million to one Anthony Okolie who was arrested for using the previous phone
number of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter. The Federal High court gave
this order on Monday.
DSS had arrested Mr.
Anthony Okolie in July 2029 in Asaba and was also released after which he sued
the DSS, Hanan Buhari and MTN demanding compensation worh N500 million for
violating his human rights, after detaining him for 10 weeks.
Mr. Anthony’s lawyer, Tope
Akinloye said that he had purchased the SIM card for N1,000 at a market in
Asaba and registered it for use just like any other person would on December 8th
2019.
A SIM pack with other
accompanying documents which showed evidence that he had bought the SIM were
presented in court. Although the DSS still stood that the plaintiff was
detained for 10 weeks because they claimed that his offence threatened national
security, even though Hanan Buhari had claimed that she didn’t ask the DSS to
arrest, Mr. Anthony Okolie.
