Despite COVID-19, the United States will celebrate National Day
CNN TV channel quoted
White House spokesman Judd Deere as saying: "As President Trump said,
there will be a National Day celebration this year and different from 2019 to
ensure safety of the health of the participants ".
Mr. Deere added that the
American people have shown their courage and spirit in the fight against
COVID-19 like their ancestors did to defend independence. On American
Independence Day, both of these things deserve celebration.
US President Donald
Trump said that the National Day celebration in 2020 will be reduced to
only a quarter of the previous year and will include measures of social distancing
to ensure the health and safety of participants.
However, some Democrats say
Washington may not be ready for the big event, because it is one of the cities
most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many Democrats even wrote
letters to Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt,
expressing concern that the July 4 event in Washington DC poses a great risk.
Some well-informed sources
told CNN that the plan to celebrate 4/7 at Central Square (National
Mall) is still going on. Accordingly, the emergency medical team who
attended the same event earlier began to discuss the method of preparation.
