House Of Assembly Shuts Down As Lawmaker Dies Of COVID-19

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has on Sunday in Lafia confirmed the shutting down of the state’s House of Assembly after the death of a lawmaker of the state from complications resulting from COVID-19.

The Governor said that the development was for the state to be able to trace all those who have come in contact with the late lawmaker recently. He revealed this while briefing the press.

He also added that all members of the Assembly has agreed to send samples for test as they self-isolate. The governor had also mentioned that the lawmaker’s death is the first coronavirus related death recorded in the state. The lawmaker had reportedly died in Keffi on Thursday.   

The deceased was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi where samples was collected from him after he showed some symptoms of the virus, although the deceased had died before the results of his test had returned, and he has been buried according to the Islamic rights in Nasarawa.

It was reported that his results came in after he was dead and buried and as such those who had attended his burial did so without knowing the results. The lawmaker also reportedly attended all Assembly sittings.

The State governor had also stated that the state has recorded 8 cases of the virus and 1 death.
