North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un Unexpectedly Re-Appeared
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un suddenly appeared
in public.
North Korea's KCNA news agency said on Monday that
the country's leader, Kim Jong-un, attended a ceremony to complete the
construction of a fertilizer plant in Sunchon province, north of Pyongyang.
According to KCNA , along with Mr. Kim is his
younger sister, Kim Yo-jong and other senior officials. However,
neither KCNA nor the Rodong Sinmun newspaper - the
mouthpiece of the Korean Workers' Party - did not publish photos taken at the
event.
This is the first report of Kim Jong-un's participation in
public activities since April 11. On April 15, he did not participate in
the anniversary of the birth of the late President Kim Nhat Thanh and this is
the first time the North Korean leader has been absent from this important
event since coming to power in 2011.
Kim's absence raises doubts about the health of the North
Korean leader. Despite this, KCNA confirmed that Mr. Kim is
still carrying out daily activities despite not reporting on his public image.
Meanwhile, South Korean officials also said there were no
signs of any abnormalities in North Korea or any emergency response by the
ruling party, military and government. They believe Mr. Kim is managing
national affairs at an unspecified location outside Pyongyang.
For its part, US President Donald Trump also
declined to comment on the news that the North Korean leader made his public
debut for the first time since April 11. Answering the reporter, Mr. Trump
said he would mention this issue at an appropriate time.
