Overtaking Italy, UK Records The Highest Death Toll For COVID-19 In Europe

The National Statistics Office (ONS) on 5/5 said the United Kingdom had an additional 3,312 deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 32,313 cases. British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab confirmed on May 5 that 29,427 deaths were due to COVID-19.

Both of these figures far exceed the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Italy - the European nation most heavily affected by the disease (29,315 cases).

Thus, whether based on newly added data or published by health authorities, the UK has become the country with the most devastating COVID-19 in Europe, even when the outbreak of the disease, quite late.

According to British media, of the more than 32,000 deaths in the UK, up to 71.8% (equivalent to 19,643 cases) were hospitalized.

Under pressure from opposition parties and the media, Foreign Minister Raab stated that comparing the UK with other countries in the world at this time is not accurate.

On the other hand, Mr. Raab said that with the most serious developments in Europe at present, there are still too many risks so the UK cannot allow reopening schools or some other economic activities.
