Dr. Mike Ryan - Executive
Director of the Emergency Program of the World Health Organization (WHO)
worried that the SARS-CoV-2 virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic could never
disappear.
"We are seeing a virus for the first time in humans. It is therefore difficult to predict when we will defeat it."
said Michael Ryan, WHO's director of emergency situations,
July 13. / 5 speaks during an online press conference from Geneva.
"This virus can become a common virus in the community and it can never disappear."
he
added that:
"HIV has not disappeared, but we must accept it."
Aside from warning people
that the Covid-19 pandemic may never disappear, Dr. Ryan stressed
that finding the SARS-CoV-2 virus vaccine is the most needed work now. The
vaccine must be available at all times and be widely available to many people.
According to Dr. Ryan, more
than 100 potential vaccines are currently under development and some have been
put into clinical trials. However, the way to find the SARS-CoV-2 virus
vaccine is still very arduous.
Covid-19 originated in
Wuhan, China in December 2019, now appears in 212 countries and territories,
causing more than 4.4 million infections, nearly 298,000 deaths and about 1.6
million people have recovered.
More than half of the
world's population has been under blockade orders since the crisis
began. But WHO warns there is no way to ensure that loosening restrictions
will not cause a second wave of infection.
