The United States is the largest epidemic region in the world, with both the highest number of infections and deaths globally. Currently, the number of infections in the United States is 1,346,332, of which, 80,004 died.

The state of New York, where the most heavily affected by Covid-19 currently records a total of 343,409 infections and 26,771 deaths. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that reopening would help reduce economic losses but increase human damage.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has published a data model showing that the number of new Covid-19 infections in the United States could increase 200,000 a day in June, many times the current increase of about 25,000.

On average, the number of deaths per day in the US may be around 3,000. The figures underline the serious reality that significant risks from disease still exist.
