Welcoming The Ceasefire, The Afghan President Pledged To Speed Up The Release Of Taliban Prisoners

According to the Afghan
president, the commitment to speeding up the release of Taliban prisoners is a
step forward of a responsible government.
Afghan President Ashraf
Ghani on May 24 pledged to speed up the release of Taliban prisoners after
welcoming a rebel proposal to enforce a three-day ceasefire during Eid al-Fitr
(ending) holy month of Ramadan).
In a speech to the whole
country on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, President Ghani said:
"As a responsible government, we take one more step forward - I declare that I will release the prisoners. Taliban."
He also urged Taliban
forces to quickly release the Afghan security agents they arrested.
Earlier, on May 23, the
Taliban announced a three-day ceasefire, which began on May 23, on the occasion
of the Eid al-Fitr, after the rebel group made a series of attacks and
bloodshed on Afghan forces in recent months.
Taliban spokesman
Zabihullah Mujahid stated:
“The leadership instructed all Islamic Kingdom's militants to take special measures to ensure the security of the people of the country, and not to proceed any campaign aimed at enemies anywhere.”
