WHO says Taiwan cannot be invited to the Annual Meeting

According to the National Review, despite calls from the US and other countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 11 said it could not invite Taiwan to attend the annual meeting of the World Health Council, after Beijing announced that Taiwan's participation will seriously violate the "One China" principle.

Steven Solomon, WHO's chief legal officer on May 11, explained to reporters that WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom could only invite Taiwan to join the conference when member states supported this. , then Mr. Tedros was only grounded and probably forced to do so.

“However, the current situation is not like that. Instead of expressing clear support, member states have different points of view and therefore, there is no basis - not compulsory - for the General Director to invite Taiwan to attend.”
he said.
