Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu Tests Positive For Coronavirus
The governor of Abia state,
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has just according to reports tested positive to
COVID-19, this was confirmed in a statement which was released by the Abia
state’s commissioner for information, Mr. John Okiyi Kalu.
The governor had earlier
gone into isolation before his test result retuned positive, he has ordered the
deputy governor, Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu to take his place till he resumes.
On Sunday the 30th
of May, 2020, the governor and his family had submitted samples for test and
the governor directed members of the state EXCO and those of the inter-ministerial
committee on COVID-19 to also submit themselves for the test.
The test result of Governor
Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state had earlier on Tuesday 2nd June, 2020
returned as a negative result. And on Thursday 4th June the governor
sent another sample for test, which the NCDC laboratory had confirmed that the
result for this second one was positive.
The Abia state
commissioner of information urged all a residents of the state to take the
battle against the virus very seriously as the disease is real though it is not
a death sentence, he added that the state has managed other patients back to
good health too.
