Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe Is Dead.

Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, who was the first Nigerian Professor of Medicine at the University College Hospital Ibadan (UCH), has just been reported dead at the age of 86.

The Emeritus Professor had studied and taught some of the most significant Universities in the world today, this includes the University of London, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA and the University of Oxford, England.

Before his death he was the Chairman, Vesta Healthcare Partners and also the Chairman of the Presidential Projects Implementation Committee (PPIC) on Refurbishing of Teaching Hospitals in the country.

He was a one-time chairman of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board and also the Chairman of the Board of Management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
He served as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, he was the former vice chancellor of University of Ilorin, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ibadan.

Before his retirement he practiced medicine for 60 years during which he established two critical clinics; one for hypertension and one in renal disorders at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and both of this clinics were the first of its kind in Africa.

After his retirement he pioneered his very own clinic, the Ibadan Hypertension Clinic which he managed for 20 years. A family source told newsmen that he had died quietly in a private residence in Ibadan.

As at the time of writing this report his family is yet to release an official statement.
