President Magufuli Declares Tanzania Free Of Coronavirus

The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli, on the 8th of June declared the East African Country, Tanzania free of COVID-19.

The president had attributed the success of the battle against the pandemic to prayers and fasting that the residents of the state offered to God. He also commended the priests and worshippers in the country for not putting on face masks and hand gloves to protect themselves from the virus but stood and fought the virus with prayers to God.

He said that it gives him joy to be the president of the country where God is put first in everything. He added that the works of the devil will always be defeated in Tanzania which is why the virus was also be defeated by God. 

This information is coming right after the WHO expressed their concerns concerning the way the government of the country was treating the case of the pandemic in the country, and this includes not publishing data on the number of cases of COVID-19 in the country neither were good measures taken to curb the spread.

 But as of at the 29th of April the official data released which was released in the country stated that the country recorded 509 cases in the state with 21 deaths.

It was also reported that the BBC had given reports that the president said last week that only 4 patients were still receiving treatment in the largest city in the country, Dar es Salaam. 

He had also dismissed the warning from the US embassy that the hospitals in Dar es Salaam were overwhelmed and that the risk of contracting the virus is very high too.

Kenya had earlier closed down its borders with Tanzania and Somalia because of the increase in the number of Imported COVID-19 cases in the country.
