Technology That Provides Internet Access Under Water: Aqua-Fi
Scientists have developed a
new technology that will allow you to connect to the Internet from the depths
of water.
Although we do not need to
go under the water in daily life, this can be a serious problem for divers and
documentary.
Engineers from
the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology
in Saudi Arabia managed to develop a technology that made it possible
to connect to the Internet from sea and ocean depths.
This technology, which is
called "Aqua-fi" by the research team and works just like Wi-Fi,
offers divers and documentaries a lot of opportunities, especially live
broadcasting from the deep water.
Aqua-Fi technology sends
data to the “gateway” from the diving person's smartphone via radio
waves. Then, this data is transferred to the computer on the surface and
connected to the internet via satellite.
Basem Åžihada from the
research team said:
“Many people from the academy and industry want to observe and explore the underwater environment to the fine detail. With the new technology, divers and the teams waiting on the boat will be able to communicate much easier. For the first time, a connection to the Internet was established under the water for the first time completely wirelessly.”
The research team says that
the product is still too early to be released, and after increasing the link
quality and transmission power, commercial production of the product can begin.
