Why Resident doctors Suddenly suspended nationwide strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors has just revealed that it is suspending the indefinite nationwide strike that it had started on Monday the 15th of June, 2020.

The strike commenced after the expiration of the 14 day ultimatum which was given to the Federal Government to fulfil their demands. The union had taken the decision to go on strike after series of futile meetings between the Federal Government and the doctors.

However the Union has just announced today that it has decided to suspend the strike which they had started less than 1 week ago. This new decision is to take effect starting tomorrow being Monday 22nd June, 2020.

The NARD made this announcement through a statement which was released by its President, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba on June 21st, in Abuja after the National Executive Council Meeting which was reportedly attended by more than 300 members of the union.

The union revealed that it took this decision in order to give the FG more time to fulfil their outstanding demands. This was followed by an appeal to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chairman of the Nigeria’s Governors Forum, the Secretary General of the Federation and other Stakeholders.
