China said that the United States repeatedly proposed arms control between the three countries of the United States - China - Russia, while promoting the "Chinese factor" to distract international attention.

Sputnik reported that on July 30, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said China considered the US's involvement in Beijing's US-China-Russia arms control talks as an effort of Washington aims to cover up its nuclear hegemonic ambition.

"The United States has repeatedly proposed arms control between the three countries of the US-China-Russia, while promoting the 'Chinese factor' to distract international attention. This is an excuse for the US to evade extending the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the United States and Russia (New START) so Washington can gain absolute strategic advantage."

Said Zhang.

The Chinese ambassador also said that Beijing is consistent with not participating in the tripartite nuclear talks proposed by the US. However, he said this did not mean Beijing boycotted global disarmament campaigns.

Last week, on the phone, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the future of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START).

According to White House press secretary Judd Deere, during the conversation, Mr. Trump reiterated his hope of avoiding an arms race between the three countries of the United States - China - Russia and hoped to conduct a discussion on arms control in Vienna (Austria). Beijing was invited to negotiate but was not present.

The New START Treaty on Reducing and Restricting Strategic Strike Arms is the only bilateral agreement between the United States and Russia to control nuclear weapons. This treaty will expire in February 2016.
