FIFA President was accused of colluding corruption

Wind waves resurfaced
violently in the backstage of the world's most powerful football agency,
FIFA. This time it was a scandal involving FIFA President Gianni Infantino
from allegedly "going nightly" with Swiss judicial officials to cover
up corrupt acts.
The incumbent FIFA
president, Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino (Gianni Infantino) was born in Brig,
Switzerland on March 23, 1970, Swiss and Italian nationality. Along with a
bachelor's degree in law from the University of Friborg (Switzerland),
Infantino is also fluent in foreign languages when he can use
5 different languages including: English, German, French, Spanish
and Italy.
In 2016, Infantino defeated
a series of heavyweight candidates to take the chair of World Football
Federation (FIFA), replacing its predecessor Sepp Blatter. Infantino has
set a record as the first case of holding senior positions in both UEFA and
FIFA since UEFA's birth in 1954. To be fair, Infantino has made significant
reforms, of which there are considerable reforms. Note is to expand development
opportunities for member football federations of the "low throat" type.
Infantino is at risk of
appearing in court because of a corruption scandal. |
Infantino personally
asserted loudly, never allowing negativity and corruption to have a place in
the most powerful football agency on the planet. Infantino is very supportive
of bringing in Video Assist (VAR) technology to ensure football accuracy.
The claim is that, but
unfortunately Infantino himself is facing an attack through actions like
"say one thing, do another". One of those incidents is that
Infantino pressured Hans-Joachim Eckert, who was in charge of the Judiciary
Division of the FIFA Ethics Committee, to be removed from his post for
"internal purge". More shocking when a series of newspapers in
Europe recently published information Infantino became the subject of the Swiss
authorities "touching" comes from accusations of covering up corrupt
practices.
Specifically, Infantino is
accused of meeting the Swiss Attorney General, Michael Lauber (the title of the
Minister of Justice) secretly three times in two years: 2016 and 2017. According
to Kicker (Germany), during the third meeting at the Schweizerhof hotel in Bern
on June 16, 2017, in addition to Lauber and Infantino, there was prosecutor
Cedric Remund. Remund is the person assigned to directly investigate
corruption in the process of winning the right to host the 2006 World Cup in
Germany as well as from the TV copyright contract signed by Infantino when he
was a "boss"In UEFA. That is why many people questioned whether
there is a quarrel here between Infantino and Lauber.
According to the
representative of the supervisory agency of the Office of the Attorney General
of Switzerland, they have evidence on hand that shows Infantino and Lauber have
signs of law violation such as abuse of positions, violation of civil service
secrets, constructing crime to cover up corrupt behavior.
Responding to the
accusations aimed at them, both Infantino and Lauber denied loudly, and
affirmed the reason for such meetings in order to coordinate more closely in
the anti-corruption investigation.
Meanwhile, the FIFA Ethics
Committee announced:
“FIFA has received
information about the decision of the Swiss authorities to initiate an
investigation into meetings involving FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and
Attorney General. Switzerland, Michael Lauber. We will cooperate fully
throughout the investigation to ensure transparency and fairness.”
The incident with Infantino
has made people more frustrated about the scandals of individuals who have been
seated as FIFA President last time. Before Infantino, predecessor Sepp
Blatter was under investigation for paying a shady $ 2 million payment to
former UEFA European Football Federation (UEFA) President Michel Platini in
2011.
