The United States is considering preventing citizens returning with signs of suspected infection or close contact with someone with Covid-19
This entry restriction is supposed to enable the government
to "reasonably" prevent people from bringing Covid-19 or other
diseases into the country.
A senior White House official recently confirmed that even
US citizens or permanent residents can be banned from entry if they show signs
of infection or close contact with someone with Covid-19. However,
according to Reuters, the above decision is just a draft that is collecting
comments from relevant agencies, has not been finalized and can be adjusted.
This entry restriction is supposed to enable the government
to "reasonably" prevent people from bringing Covid-19 or other
diseases into the country.
The New York Times, the first to report on the draft, said
that the final decision will be made by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC).
“The CDC believes that any act that prevents US citizens or permanent residents from returning from abroad can only be carried out in extremely rare cases, requiring consideration of public health interests, and in a Limited time.”
Said the New York Times extracting the draft.
It is known that over time, the Trump administration has
applied a series of immigration restrictions to prevent the corona virus from
entering abroad, including suspending legal immigration programs, and directing
marine units. Immediately expel migrants arrested at the border without
following the normal process.
Related developments, according to statistics from John
Hopkins University, USA - the country with the highest number of Covid-19
infections in the world, hit the 4 million people infected with the virus on
July 23 and has reached 5,160,141 schools on August 10.
US health officials believe the actual number of infections
is probably 10 times higher, at nearly 50 million people, due to limited
testing and up to 40% of infected people have no symptoms, according to the AP.
The number of new daily infections in the US is currently
around 54,000, though down from a peak of 70,000 a day last month, new
infections and deaths in the country are still escalating.
The United States is also the country with the highest
number of Covid-19 deaths in the world, with 162,000 cases, statistics from
John Hopkins University show.
