14 Bodies Recovered As Bus Conveying Church Members Going For A Burial Plunges Into A River In Ebonyi State (photos)

Disaster struck in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi state on Friday night, September 18th, after a bus which was conveying 32 persons to a burial, lurched into Akaeze-Ukwu River in the local government area.

A Spokesperson of the state police command, Loveth Odah, who had confirmed the incident which took place to newsmen, revealed that 14 bodies have so far been recovered from the river while efforts have been put in place to recover the rest. She also revealed that the 14 corpses that were recovered include of seven male and seven female.

 



Loveth Odah also revealed that among the 5 victims which wre rescued from the river was the driver of the 608 coaster bus with the registration number UKP 78 XA Mr. Nwaonu Chinedu who is from the IKWO LGA of the state.

The driver revealed in detail that he was conveying 32 members of the Christ Peculiar Church of Nigeria Enugu State branch to attend a burial ceremony at Nguzu  Edda in Afikpo South LGA of the State.

14 corpses have been recovered from the river (7 female and 7 male) as well as the 608 Vehicle.

"The corpses have deposited at  Martha Memorial hospital mortuary AFIKPO preservation.''
