79 New COVID-19 Cases — A
Most Significant Drop Since April
For the first time since the
month of April, the daily count of the infected persons has dropped drastically
below 100.
The Nigeria Centre for
Disease Control (NCDC) has just confirmed 79 new cases Sunday night which is
according to the daily count the lowest daily count for close to five months
now.
The new COVID-19 infections
were recorded in 12 states of the federation including the Federal Capital
Teritory (FCT).
Before Sunday night which
was September 13, 2020, the last time in which the country recorded less than
100 new positive samples was on April 27th, when 64 cases were confirmed at the
time, Nigeria had only recorded a total of 1,337 cases, out of which 251
patients had recovered, while 40 persons had died of the infection.
However, just two months
later, the total number of cases had increased to 24,077 cases with 8,625
recoveries and 558 deaths.
By August 27th,
Nigeria had crossed 50,000 cases; although recoveries had also exceeded 40,000,
on the positive side, the country has topped 1,000 on its death toll.
