Armed Group Suddenly Opened Fire In Mexico's Funeral, More Than 20 People Were Killed

Morelos state prosecutors in central Mexico said an armed attack took place against people attending a funeral in the Antonio Barona district in Cuernavaca, killing eight and 14 others.

According to local sources, the incident happened at 2240 p.m. on September 2 (local time) when an armed group traveling on three motorcycles opened fire on the crowd attending the funeral. Most of the victims were in their youth.

It is known that in the first 6 months of 2020, Mexico recorded a record high number of homicides with 17,982 cases. This country is known as a drug transit station from South America, through Central America to the US and is one of the countries most affected by drug trafficking.

In the 2006-2019 period, the war on drugs and drug cartels' settlements to control routes and transit stations claimed the lives of more than 270,000 people.

In addition to the drug and arms trade, the Mexican organized crime gangs have also carried out a series of kidnappings, blackmail and murder cases.
